Morning Manna: The Mercies That Meet You at Dawn — Morning Devotional

Beloved, before your feet touched the floor this morning, the mercies of God had already gone before you. The prophet Jeremiah, sitting in the ashes of a ruined city, still dared to write, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice the timing — not weekly, not occasionally, but every morning. The God who hung the sun in the sky has hung fresh mercy over this Tuesday, June 2nd, like dew on the grass. Whatever yesterday held — its victories, its failures, its unfinished tasks — the dawn does not carry it forward unless you do. Today is a clean page on which Heaven has already written your name. There is a holy rhythm hidden in the morning hours. Jesus Himself, the busiest man who ever walked the earth, 'rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed' (Mark 1:35). The Son of God did not consider it weakness to begin the day on His knees; He considered it strength. David sang, 'My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up' (Psalm 5:3). To 'direct' a prayer is the language of an archer — to aim, to set, to point your soul toward Heaven before the world has a chance to bend it elsewhere. The first words you speak today, the first thoughts you welcome, the first burdens you pick up — these set the trajectory of every hour that follows. Do not be deceived into thinking your day begins with a notification, a deadline, or a worry. Your day begins with a Father who has been awake all night watching over you. 'Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep' (Psalm 121:4). While you rested, He was working. While you slept, He was arranging. The provision you will need at noon was prepared before dawn. The wisdom you will need at three o'clock is already on its way. The strength you will need at the end of the day is being stored up for you now. Solomon wrote, 'The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it' (Proverbs 10:22). True wealth — of soul, of substance, of significance — flows from communion, not from striving. The one who begins the day with God ends the day with peace. So lift your eyes, beloved. Step into this Tuesday not as a wage-earner anxious for survival, but as a son or daughter of the Most High walking into a day already prepared for you. 'This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it' (Psalm 118:24). Whatever your hand finds to do — work it with excellence (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Whatever door opens — walk through it with courage (Joshua 1:9). Whatever burden is laid upon you — cast it on Him who cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). The mercies are new. The grace is sufficient. The Shepherd is good. Rise, and walk in it.
