Morning Mercies for a New Day
Beloved, lift your eyes this morning and behold the faithfulness of the One who has summoned the dawn on your behalf. The prophet Jeremiah, even amid the ruins of Jerusalem, declared, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Whatever yesterday held — its victories or its failures, its laughter or its tears — God has poured out a fresh measure of mercy for today. You do not begin this day on the leftovers of grace; you begin on a freshly spread table prepared by your Father's hand.
Consider how God taught Israel this very lesson in the wilderness. Each morning, manna lay upon the ground like dew, and the people were instructed to gather only what they needed for that day (Exodus 16:4). Yesterday's manna could not sustain today's journey, and today's manna will not carry you through tomorrow. So it is with the soul: we must come daily, hungry and expectant, to receive the bread that only Heaven supplies. Jesus Himself taught us to pray, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11) — a reminder that intimacy with God is not a one-time provision but a moment-by-moment communion.
This morning, before the noise of the world crowds in, let your first words be worship and your first posture be surrender. The psalmist sang, 'My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up' (Psalm 5:3). To 'look up' is to lift your gaze from the burdens of self and fix it upon the throne of grace. There you will find that the same God who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows has already gone before you into every appointment, conversation, and decision this day will hold (Matthew 6:26-30).
So rise, child of God, not in your own strength but in His. 'They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint' (Isaiah 40:31). Let today be marked not by anxious striving but by steady trust, not by fearful planning but by faithful obedience. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is your portion this morning — and His mercies, like the rising sun, will never fail.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your mercies are new this morning and that Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Quiet my anxious thoughts, and let Your Word be the manna that feeds my soul today. Go before me into every moment, and let my words, my work, and my worship bring glory to Your name. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
