Rise Like the Dawn: Walking in the Renewing Mercies of God — Morning Devotional

Beloved, before the sun crested the horizon this morning, the mercies of God were already running ahead of you to meet this day. The prophet Jeremiah declared in the ashes of Jerusalem's ruin, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice that mercy is not rationed by your performance yesterday. It is a fresh deposit, untouched and unspent, waiting at the threshold of June 4th. The same God who spoke light into the void on the first morning of creation has spoken light into yours. The Psalmist understood the strategic power of meeting God at sunrise. 'My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up' (Psalm 5:3). To 'direct' here carries the image of an archer setting an arrow to the bow, or a priest arranging the morning sacrifice upon the altar. Your first conscious thoughts are arrows. Aim them well. When you anchor the first moments of consciousness in Scripture and prayer, you set the trajectory for every decision, every conversation, every transaction that follows. Kingdom-minded stewards know that wealth, wisdom, and witness all flow from a heart that begins the day at the feet of the Father. Jesus Himself, the very Son of God, modeled this rhythm. Mark records, 'And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed' (Mark 1:35). If the sinless Savior required the strengthening of dawn-hour communion, how much more do we? The morning is not merely a clock reading; it is a covenant invitation. Before the demands of email, family, and finance press in, the Lord offers you the secret place where strategy is downloaded, identity is reinforced, and burdens are exchanged for yokes that are easy and light (Matthew 11:30). So lift your eyes today, beloved. The God who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows has not overlooked you (Matthew 6:26-30). Walk into this Thursday with the confidence of a child whose Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10). Whatever fields you are called to labor in — your work, your family, your ministry, your finances — sow in faith, for 'they that sow in tears shall reap in joy' (Psalm 126:5). The dawn has broken. Rise and shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon you (Isaiah 60:1).
