Morning Manna: Rise to the Mercy That Is Already New — Morning Devotional

Beloved, before your feet touched the floor this morning, the mercy of God had already arrived ahead of you. The prophet Jeremiah, weeping over the ruins of Jerusalem, still dared to write, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice the order — mercy is not a reward you chase down through performance; it is a gift delivered to your doorstep with the dawn. Today, June 7, 2026, is not a blank page you must fill with striving. It is a page God has already inscribed with grace, waiting only for you to wake up and walk in it. There is a quiet theology hidden in the sunrise. Jesus said, 'He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good' (Matthew 5:45), reminding us that God's generosity is not rationed according to yesterday's failures. The Puritan Thomas Watson once wrote that 'the mercies of God are renewed as the morning light.' Whatever burden you carried into sleep last night — financial pressure, a strained relationship, a habit you cannot seem to break — does not get to define this morning. The Hebrew word for 'new' in Lamentations 3 is *chadash*, meaning fresh, restored, rebuilt. God is not recycling yesterday's grace; He is forging new mercy specifically calibrated for the trials and triumphs of this day. This truth has profound implications for how we steward our work, our wealth, and our witness. The Apostle Paul charged Timothy that God 'giveth us richly all things to enjoy' (1 Timothy 6:17), and Proverbs 10:22 reminds us, 'The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.' A heart anchored in morning mercy works from rest, not for rest. It does not hustle in fear but labors in faith, knowing that the same God who hung the sun is sovereign over your inbox, your investments, and your influence. When you begin the day in worship rather than worry, you discover that diligence becomes a form of doxology and provision becomes a pathway to praise. So lift your eyes. The Lord who 'daily loadeth us with benefits' (Psalm 68:19) is loading this day with His goodness. Walk slowly enough this morning to notice it — the breath in your lungs, the roof over your head, the Word in your hands, the Spirit in your heart. 'This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it' (Psalm 118:24). Receive the mercy. Trust the Giver. And let today's faithfulness be your worship.
