The Mercy That Meets You at Sunrise — Morning Devotional

Before your feet touch the floor this morning, the mercies of God have already arrived ahead of you. The prophet Jeremiah, sitting in the rubble of a ruined Jerusalem, wrote words that have anchored believers for nearly three thousand years: 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice the tense — they ARE new. Not recycled. Not rationed. Not borrowed from yesterday's supply. Whatever you spent, squandered, or stumbled through yesterday cannot diminish what God has freshly poured out for today. This is the quiet revolution of the Christian morning. The world wakes you with notifications, deadlines, and the residue of yesterday's worries. But Scripture wakes you with a different reality: 'Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee' (Psalm 143:8). David did not begin his day by reviewing his failures or rehearsing his fears. He began by listening — tuning his ear to the lovingkindness of God before tuning it to anything else. The first voice you hear shapes every voice that follows. There is also a quiet economy at work here, one that touches even your labor and your provision. Jesus taught, 'But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you' (Matthew 6:33). The order matters. When you place the kingdom first in your morning — in your thoughts, your prayers, your priorities — you are not delaying the practical concerns of the day; you are positioning them under a higher governance. Wealth, work, relationships, and rest all find their proper weight when God is given the first weight of your day. So rise today with confidence, not because the day promises ease, but because the One who holds the day promises Himself. 'This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it' (Psalm 118:24). Whatever this Tuesday brings — gain or loss, clarity or confusion, breakthrough or waiting — it has already been touched by mercy before it reached your hands. Walk into it not as a survivor of yesterday, but as a child of a Father whose compassions have never once arrived late.
