Manna for the Morning: Rising on the Faithfulness of God — Morning Devotional

Beloved, before your feet touch the floor, lift your heart to the One whose mercies are new every morning. The prophet Jeremiah, sitting in the ashes of a burning city, still dared to write, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Whatever yesterday held — victory or defeat, abundance or lack, laughter or tears — God has prepared fresh mercy for today. You do not have to carry the weight of the past into the promise of this morning. Like the manna in the wilderness, His provision cannot be hoarded; it must be gathered fresh, daily, in trust. Jesus taught us to pray, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11), and in doing so He invited us into a rhythm of holy dependence. The Israelites in Exodus 16 learned that when they tried to store manna overnight, it bred worms and stank — but each morning, like clockwork, a fresh layer covered the desert floor. So it is with grace, with strength, with wisdom, and yes, even with provision for our households. God is not a God of yesterday's leftovers; He is the God who meets you anew at sunrise. Proverbs 8:17 declares, 'I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.' To seek Him early is to set the compass of your soul before the noise of the world sets it for you. Consider also the discipline of David, who wrote, 'My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up' (Psalm 5:3). Notice the three movements: he spoke, he aimed his prayer like an arrow, and he looked up in expectation. This is the posture of the prosperous soul — not anxious striving, but confident communion. When you anchor your morning in God's Word, you are not merely starting a day; you are entering covenant with the Author of your day. Every plan you make, every dollar you steward, every conversation you enter is then sanctified by the One who orders your steps (Psalm 37:23). So today, June 10, beloved, rise as one who is loved. Rise as one who is sent. Rise as one whose Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and who delights to give good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11). Let your first thoughts be thanksgiving, your first words be praise, and your first decisions be guided by Scripture. The same God who fed Elijah by ravens, multiplied the widow's oil, and turned five loaves into a feast for thousands is the same God who walks into this Wednesday with you. Trust Him. Walk uprightly. Sow generously. And watch the faithfulness of God unfold like a sunrise across the landscape of your life.
