Morning Manna: The God Who Goes Before You — Morning Devotional

Good morning, beloved. Before your feet touched the floor today, the Lord was already at work on your behalf. Deuteronomy 31:8 declares, 'And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be thou dismayed.' Notice the order: He goes before you, then He walks with you. Whatever this Saturday holds — meetings you dread, conversations you've delayed, decisions that feel too heavy — God has already been to that hour and prepared the way. You are not stepping into the unknown; you are stepping into territory your Father has already surveyed. The Israelites learned this truth in the wilderness. Each morning, manna appeared with the dew (Exodus 16:14-15), not because they had earned it, but because God had ordained it before the sun rose. They could not hoard it; they could only gather what the day required. This is the rhythm of grace: fresh mercies, fresh provision, fresh strength — daily. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.' Yesterday's manna will not sustain today's journey, and that is a mercy, not a lack. This morning posture also reorders our relationship with wealth and work. Proverbs 3:9-10 instructs us to 'Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty.' Firstfruits are not what is left over — they are what is given first, in faith, before the harvest is fully counted. When you begin your day with God before you begin it with your inbox, your calendar, or your worries, you are practicing firstfruits of time. The barn of your soul fills with peace, and the labor of your hands is blessed because it flows from worship, not anxiety. So rise today with quiet confidence. You serve a God who never slumbers (Psalm 121:4), who orders your steps (Psalm 37:23), and who has already deposited everything you need into this day. Gather your manna. Trust His leading. And remember — the same God who parted seas for Moses and provided ravens for Elijah is intimately attentive to the smallest detail of your Saturday. Walk forward unafraid.
