Mercies New for This Morning — Morning Devotional

Beloved, lift your eyes this Monday morning and behold a truth that has carried saints through every age: 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Jeremiah penned these words amid the rubble of a fallen Jerusalem, yet he discovered that God's mercy is not rationed by our circumstances. Whatever yesterday held — its victories, its failures, its disappointments — today arrives with a fresh allotment of grace, freshly drawn from the inexhaustible well of the Father's heart. Notice the picture Scripture paints: mercies that are *new* every morning. Like the manna in the wilderness that could not be hoarded (Exodus 16:19-21), God's grace is given in daily portions so that we might learn daily dependence. The Israelites who tried to store yesterday's bread found it bred worms; those who gathered each morning ate fresh provision. So it is with us. We cannot live today on the grace of yesterday, nor borrow against tomorrow. The Lord meets us *here*, in this dawn, with precisely what we need for the hours ahead — including provision for our work, our finances, and our calling to be faithful stewards. This is why Jesus taught us to pray, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11). It is no accident that He linked spiritual dependence with daily sustenance. The God who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows (Matthew 6:26-30) is the same God who promises, 'But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus' (Philippians 4:19). True wealth begins not in the bank but in the believing heart that wakes up each morning trusting the faithfulness of its King. When we anchor the day in His sufficiency, our labor becomes worship, and our pursuits become consecrated. So rise today with holy expectation. The God of Jacob is not slumbering — He has been awake all night, ordering your steps and going before you (Psalm 121:3-4; Deuteronomy 31:8). Whatever this Monday holds — meetings, decisions, burdens, opportunities — step into it clothed in the strength of the One whose compassions never fail. 'This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it' (Psalm 118:24). Walk in that gladness, and let your every breath this day be a quiet 'thank You' to the Author of mercies new.
