Manna for the Morning: The Mercies That Meet You Here
Beloved, before your feet ever touched the floor this morning, the mercy of God had already arrived ahead of you. The prophet Jeremiah, writing in the smoldering ruins of Jerusalem, lifted his eyes and declared, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice the timing — new every morning. Yesterday's mercy was sufficient for yesterday's burden, but today God has prepared a fresh portion, custom-fitted for the weight, the work, and the wonder of June 17, 2026. You are not scraping the bottom of an old jar; you are gathering manna that has fallen overnight, just for you.
This is the rhythm God established with Israel in the wilderness. Exodus 16 tells us the manna could not be hoarded — what was kept overnight bred worms and stank. Each dawn required a fresh trust, a fresh gathering, a fresh dependence. Jesus carried this same pattern into the Lord's Prayer: 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11). Heaven's economy is daily, not stockpiled. If you have felt anxious because you cannot see how next month's provision, next year's healing, or next decade's purpose will unfold, take heart — God is not asking you to see that far. He is asking you to receive what He has set down at your tent this morning.
And what has He set down? Consider the riches of this dawn: breath in your lungs (Genesis 2:7), the steadfast love that surrounds the righteous (Psalm 32:10), wisdom freely given to those who ask (James 1:5), and a Shepherd who goes before you into every meeting, every conversation, every quiet hour (John 10:4). True wealth, the kind Scripture commends, begins not in the bank but in the soul that knows its Source. As Proverbs 10:22 reminds us, 'The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.' Gather that blessing first, and every other pursuit of the day will be rightly ordered.
So lift your eyes, beloved. Whatever fear whispered to you in the night, let the morning answer it with Scripture. Whatever failure haunts yesterday, let the new mercy bury it. Whatever calling stirs in your chest, let it be fueled by the faithfulness of the One who called you. Today is not a repetition of yesterday — it is a fresh page in the book God is writing with your life. Step into it expecting to see His goodness in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13).
Prayer
Father of mercies and God of all comfort, thank You for the fresh portion You have already prepared for me this morning. Forgive me for the times I have tried to live on yesterday's manna or worried about tomorrow's supply, and teach me the holy art of daily dependence. Open my eyes to see Your goodness in the ordinary hours of this day, and let my heart be quick to trust, quick to obey, and quick to give thanks. In the strong and gentle name of Jesus, my Bread of Life, I pray. Amen.
