Manna for the Morning: Gather What This Day Requires — Morning Devotional

Good morning, beloved. As the sun rises over this Friday, June 26, 2026, remember the lesson God taught Israel in the wilderness: 'Gather of it every man according to his eating' (Exodus 16:16). The manna could not be hoarded for tomorrow — it had to be received fresh each dawn. So it is with you today. Whatever yesterday held — its victories or its wounds — has already done its work. The grace you need for today is being poured out now, in this very hour, and it is enough. Jesus echoed this same wilderness rhythm when He taught us to pray, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11). Notice He did not teach us to ask for the week's provision, the month's strategy, or the year's security. He invites us into a daily dependence — not because God is stingy, but because He is near. The Father knows that a soul fed on tomorrow's anxieties starves in today's abundance. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that His mercies 'are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.' New mercies. Morning-fresh. Tailored to this Friday's particular need. This is also the foundation of true wealth. The world chases accumulation; the kingdom teaches stewardship of what is given today. Proverbs 30:8 prays a startling prayer: 'Feed me with food convenient for me' — neither poverty nor riches, but daily sufficiency that keeps the heart tender toward God. When you trust the Giver more than the gift, you are released from the tyranny of scarcity and the idolatry of excess. You can work diligently, give generously, and rest deeply, because your security is anchored in Him, not in your storehouse. So step into this day with open hands. Receive the strength for the conversation you are dreading, the patience for the task that feels small, the wisdom for the decision that feels large. Do not borrow tomorrow's burden — it is not yet yours to carry. As Jesus said, 'Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof' (Matthew 6:34). And sufficient unto this day is the grace of your Father. Gather it now. Eat. Be filled. Then go.
