Mercies New With the Morning Light — Morning Devotional

Beloved, before your feet touched the floor this morning, the mercies of God were already waiting for you. The prophet Jeremiah, sitting in the ashes of a ruined Jerusalem, wrote words that have steadied the saints for nearly three thousand years: 'It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice what Jeremiah did not say. He did not say the mercies were recycled, or rationed, or reserved for the worthy. He said they are new — freshly minted from the storehouse of heaven, delivered to your doorstep before the sun cleared the horizon. Yesterday's failures cannot exhaust them. Today's anxieties cannot outpace them. They are sufficient, and they are yours. This is the rhythm God has woven into creation itself. Every sunrise is a sermon, every dawn a declaration that the Lord has not finished His work in you. The psalmist understood this when he wrote, 'This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it' (Psalm 118:24). Not yesterday — that day is finished, its grace already spent and its lessons already learned. Not tomorrow — that day is still hidden in the wisdom of God. But this day, this Saturday, the twenty-seventh of June, is a gift placed deliberately in your hands. The question is not whether God will be faithful in it; that is already settled. The question is whether you will walk through it with eyes lifted, expecting to see His goodness in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13). There is also a quiet principle of wealth and stewardship hidden in this morning grace. Solomon wrote, 'The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it' (Proverbs 10:22). True prosperity — whether of soul, of family, or of finances — does not begin with striving but with surrender. It begins by acknowledging, as the morning light breaks, that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights (James 1:17). When you begin your day by receiving rather than grasping, by worshipping before working, you align yourself with the One who 'giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength' (Isaiah 40:29). The labor of your hands will then be planted in fertile soil, and the Lord will establish the work you do (Psalm 90:17). So lift your head, dear one. Whatever the day holds — appointments or interruptions, gains or losses, joys or quiet sorrows — you do not enter it alone, and you do not enter it empty-handed. The God who clothed the lilies and feeds the sparrows has already gone before you (Deuteronomy 31:8). Trust Him with the unseen hours. Walk humbly, give generously, speak gently, and labor faithfully. The same mercies that woke you will keep you, and the same faithfulness that carried the saints of old is wrapped around your shoulders this very morning like a garment of praise (Isaiah 61:3).
