Mercies New for the Morning
Beloved, lift your eyes this June morning and receive the truth Jeremiah wept into the ashes of Jerusalem: 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23). Whatever weight you carried into sleep last night, God has already prepared a fresh portion of mercy for today. Yesterday's manna could not be hoarded in the wilderness, and yesterday's grace was never meant to sustain today's journey. The Father, who counts the hairs on your head, has measured out exactly what you need for the next twenty-four hours, no more and no less.
Consider the rhythm of creation itself. Each sunrise is a sermon preached without words, declaring that God has not grown weary of beginning again. The psalmist sang, 'Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning' (Psalm 30:5). Notice that joy is not promised as the absence of struggle, but as a companion sent ahead of us into the dawn. The same God who divided light from darkness in Genesis still parts the shadows of our lives, calling us out of yesterday's regret and into today's purpose.
This morning, refuse the temptation to step into the day under your own strength. Jesus reminded us in the Sermon on the Mount, 'Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself' (Matthew 6:34). Wealth in the Kingdom is not measured only in coin but in trust — the holy currency that says, 'My Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and He has not forgotten His child.' Whether you face a boardroom, a classroom, a hospital room, or a quiet kitchen, you carry within you the indwelling Spirit of the Living God.
So rise, beloved. Lace up the sandals of the gospel of peace. Speak Scripture over your home before you speak news into it. Let your first conversation of the day be with the One who knew you before the foundation of the world. The mercies are new. The compassions are fresh. The faithfulness is great. Walk forward — not in fear of what the day may hold, but in confidence of Whom the day belongs to.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of this new morning and the mercies You have prepared before my feet ever touched the floor. Forgive me for the worries I carried from yesterday, and teach me to receive today's grace for today's needs. Anchor my heart in Your faithfulness, order my steps in Your Word, and let every encounter today bear the fragrance of Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.
