The Mercies That Meet You at Morning
Beloved, before your feet ever touched the floor this morning, the mercy of God had already arrived ahead of you. The prophet Jeremiah, sitting in the ashes of a ruined Jerusalem, made one of the most astonishing declarations in all of Scripture: 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice the geography of grace here — mercy is not waiting at the end of your day as a reward for performance; it is stationed at the beginning of it as a gift. June 30 marks the closing of the sixth month, the midpoint of the year, and whatever the first half has held — triumph or trial, abundance or lack — God's compassions are not depleted. They are freshly distributed, like manna in the wilderness, sufficient for this single day.
Consider how the Israelites gathered manna in Exodus 16. They could not hoard it; yesterday's portion bred worms by morning. The Lord was teaching them — and us — a rhythm of daily dependence. Jesus echoed this when He taught us to pray, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11). True wealth in the Kingdom is not measured by what you have stockpiled, but by your confidence that the Giver will meet you again at sunrise. Proverbs 3:9-10 promises, 'Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty.' Firstfruits — the first hour, the first thought, the first dollar — declare to heaven and to your own soul that God is your Source, not your supplement.
This is the anchor for your day: you do not labor toward God's favor; you labor from it. Psalm 90:14 cries, 'O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.' When the morning is surrendered, the afternoon obeys. When you begin with worship, you will not end with worry. Whatever meeting, message, mountain, or mundane task awaits you, you carry into it the unshakable identity of one who has already been met by God. The enemy of your soul wants you to enter June 30 striving, scrambling, and self-reliant. The Father invites you to enter it satisfied, steady, and Spirit-led.
So lift your eyes. The sun rising outside your window is a daily sermon preached by creation itself — that God is faithful, that His mercies are new, and that the One who fed prophets by ravens and multitudes by loaves has not forgotten your name. Walk into this day as a steward, not a striver. Give generously, work diligently, trust completely. The God of Jacob is your refuge, and the wealth of His goodness is your inheritance today.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me at the doorway of this morning with mercies that are brand new. I receive Your compassion, Your provision, and Your peace as my portion for June 30. Teach me to walk in daily dependence, to honor You with my firstfruits, and to carry Your presence into every task, every conversation, and every decision. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
