Rise with the Mercies That Are New — Morning Devotional

Beloved, before your feet touched the floor this morning, the mercy of God was already waiting for you. The prophet Jeremiah, standing amid the smoldering ruins of Jerusalem, lifted his eyes and declared, 'It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness' (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV). Notice the tense — new. Not recycled from yesterday, not rationed for the week, but freshly poured out like manna at dawn. Whatever burdens you carried into sleep, God has met you at sunrise with a supply of grace crafted for this very day. This truth is the anchor of the believer's morning. Jesus taught us to pray, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11), because our Father intends for us to walk in daily dependence, not stockpiled self-sufficiency. In the wilderness, Israel was forbidden to hoard the manna; any gathered for tomorrow bred worms and stank (Exodus 16:20). God was training a people to trust Him one sunrise at a time. The same discipline shapes us today: we do not need grace for next month's trial or next year's decision — we need grace for today, and today it is abundantly given. So consider what this morning invites you into. The psalmist wrote, 'O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days' (Psalm 90:14). A soul satisfied at daybreak walks differently through the noonday heat. When you begin the day feasting on God's faithfulness rather than scrolling through anxieties, you position your heart to meet interruptions with peace, temptations with strength, and opportunities with wisdom. Even in matters of provision and stewardship, Scripture reminds us that 'the blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it' (Proverbs 10:22) — a blessing best received by hands opened in morning worship, not clenched in morning worry. Rise, then, not merely to a schedule but to a Savior. Let today's first thought be gratitude, today's first word be praise, and today's first decision be surrender. The One who spoke light into darkness has spoken light into your day. Walk in it. As Paul urged the Ephesians, 'See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil' (Ephesians 5:15-16). This day is a gift entrusted to you — steward it with joy, and let every hour testify that His mercies were indeed new this morning.
