Reflection

The opening psalm paints a portrait of the blessed soul as a tree deliberately planted beside flowing waters. Notice the passive voice: the tree does not plant itself. It is positioned by a wise hand near an unfailing source. So too, the believer who delights in God's law is rooted in a stream that never runs dry, even when the surrounding land suffers drought. Your stability in this season is not the product of your striving but of where you have allowed yourself to be planted. Fruit comes in its season, not on demand. There are months when the tree appears merely to stand, drawing silently from hidden waters, and there are months when its branches bend low with harvest. Both are seasons of faithfulness. If today feels like waiting, remember that unseen roots are doing the most important work. The leaf that does not wither is the steady witness of a life quietly nourished by Scripture, prayer, and trust. The final promise — "whatsoever he doeth shall prosper" — is not a guarantee of effortless wealth but of meaningful flourishing. When our doings flow from a rooted life, they carry the weight of eternity. Prosperity, in the biblical sense, is the alignment of our work with God's purposes, so that even small acts bear fruit that lasts.
