Solomon's counsel to his son cuts to the heart of biblical stewardship: every blessing we receive begins and ends with God. To honor the Lord with our 'substance' is to acknowledge that our wealth, our work, and our increase are not self-generated but divinely entrusted. The 'firstfruits' principle is radical because it places God before every other claim on our resources — before bills, before savings, before comfort. It is an act of worship that declares, 'Lord, You are first, and I trust You with what remains.' The promise that follows is not a transactional formula but a covenantal assurance. When we order our finances according to God's priorities, He orders our provision according to His abundance. Barns filled with plenty and presses bursting with new wine speak of overflow — not merely enough, but more than enough to bless others. This is the rhythm of the Kingdom: we give first, and God multiplies what remains. Many believers reverse this order, giving from leftovers, and wonder why they feel financially anxious. Honor restored at the front of the budget brings peace to the whole of it. As you enter this new month, consider what 'firstfruits' looks like in your own life. It may be the first portion of your paycheck, the first hour of your morning in prayer, or the first decision of your day surrendered to His will. God does not need your offering — He desires your heart. And when your heart is rightly aligned, every barn in your life, whether material, relational, or spiritual, finds itself filled by the hand that owns the harvest.
