Daily Bible Verse
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Reflection
Solomon's counsel to his son cuts straight to the heart of biblical stewardship: the LORD is not merely owed a portion of what remains after our wants are satisfied — He is honored with the firstfruits, the very first and best of all that comes into our hands. In the ancient agrarian world, offering the firstfruits was an act of radical trust. The harvest had only just begun; no one yet knew whether more would follow. To give the first sheaves to God was to declare, before the storehouse was full, that He alone is the Source of every increase. The promise that follows is not a transactional formula but a covenant pattern. Barns filled with plenty and presses bursting with new wine speak of an abundance that overflows its containers — provision so generous it cannot be contained. Yet notice the order: honor first, then overflow. We do not give in order to get; we give because He is worthy, and in His faithfulness He sustains those who trust Him with the firstfruits of their labor, their time, and their wealth. On this June morning, consider what your 'firstfruits' look like in this season. It may be the first hour of your day surrendered in prayer, the first portion of your paycheck set apart in worship, or the first yes of your week given to kingdom purposes. Whatever harvest God has placed in your hands, honor Him first — and watch how He fills the barns of a heart that puts Him before all else.
