Daily Bible Verse
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Reflection
Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest king of ancient Israel, opens a window into the divine economy with these words. To honor the Lord with our substance is to acknowledge that every coin, every harvest, every paycheck flows first from His hand. The 'firstfruits' principle is not merely about giving — it is about order. When God receives the first and best portion, He is enthroned as Lord over our finances, not as an afterthought competing with bills and desires. This was the pattern Abel followed when he brought the firstborn of his flock (Genesis 4:4), and it is the same pattern that brought God's blessing upon the storehouses of Israel. Notice the promise: barns filled with plenty, presses bursting with new wine. This is not a transaction where we manipulate God into prosperity, but a covenant rhythm where trust unlocks supply. The one who clutches the firstfruits in fear of lack reveals a heart that does not yet believe God can multiply what remains. But the one who releases the first portion in worship discovers that the remaining ninety percent, blessed by God, accomplishes more than one hundred percent ever could under our own striving. Today, examine the order of your giving. Is God receiving your firstfruits — your first hour, your first thought, your first dollar — or merely your leftovers? Honor Him first, and watch how He honors the rest. The bursting press is the inheritance of those who refuse to withhold the firstfruit.
