Reflection

Beloved, on this Lord's Day in mid-June, Solomon hands us one of Scripture's clearest blueprints for kingdom prosperity. The Hebrew word for 'honour' here is *kabad* — meaning to make weighty, to give glory, to treat as heavy with worth. To honour God with our *substance* is to declare with our wallets what our lips already confess: that He is the Source, the Sustainer, and the rightful Owner of every dollar that passes through our hands. The 'firstfruits' principle predates the Law itself — Abel offered the firstlings of his flock, Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of the spoils, and Israel was commanded to bring the first sheaf of harvest before they tasted any of it themselves. Giving God the *first* is an act of trust; giving Him the *leftovers* is an act of fear. Notice the divine economy at work: God does not ask us to give *from* our abundance — He asks us to give *into* our abundance. The promise that follows is staggering. Barns 'filled with plenty' and presses that 'burst out' with new wine paint a picture of overflow so excessive that the storage cannot contain it. This is not the prosperity of the world, which depends on scarcity and striving. This is the prosperity of the Father, who delights to lavish good gifts upon children who have learned to hold money with open hands. The condition is simple but profound: honour first, increase second. Reverse the order, and you build barns that never quite fill. As you enter this new week, examine your firstfruits. Is your tithe an afterthought or a first thought? Is your generosity reactive or planned? The believer who masters this principle will find that God Himself becomes their financial strategist — multiplying seed sown, rebuking the devourer, and opening windows of heaven that no recession can shut. Honour Him today with the very best of what you have, and watch Him honour you with more than you can contain.
