Daily Bible Verse
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Reflection
Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest king of Israel, opens a divine economic principle in these verses: the order of our giving reveals the order of our hearts. To honor the Lord with our 'substance' means dedicating not the leftovers, but the firstfruits — the very first and best portion of all that comes into our hands. In the ancient agrarian world, this was a radical act of faith: the farmer surrendered the first sheaf before knowing whether the rest of the harvest would even come in. It was worship disguised as economics, and economics transformed by worship. The promise attached is staggering — barns filled with plenty, presses bursting with new wine. Yet we must not mistake this for a transactional formula. God is not a vending machine that dispenses wealth in exchange for tithes. Rather, He is a Father who delights to entrust greater resources to children who have proven faithful with the first portion. When we give Him the firstfruits, we acknowledge that everything already belongs to Him, and we position ourselves as stewards rather than owners. That posture of humility is the soil in which true abundance grows. Today, examine the firstfruits of your life — not only money, but the first hour of your morning, the first thoughts upon waking, the first energies of your strength. Offer them to the Lord, and watch how He multiplies what remains. The God who turned five loaves into a feast for thousands has not changed. Honor Him first, and the barns of your soul, your home, and your calling will overflow.
