Daily Bible Verse
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Reflection
Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest king of Israel, opens a divine principle of stewardship that has stood unshaken for three millennia. To honor the Lord with our substance is to acknowledge that every dollar, every harvest, every paycheck flows from His hand first. The 'firstfruits' were not the leftovers offered after personal needs were met — they were the choicest, earliest portion of the harvest, given before the farmer knew whether the rest of the crop would even come in. This was an act of radical trust, declaring that God is the true Source and Sustainer of our prosperity. The promise that follows is not a transactional formula but a covenantal pattern woven into the fabric of God's economy. When we put God first in our finances, He responds with abundance — barns 'filled with plenty' and presses bursting with 'new wine.' This is not the prosperity of greed, but the overflow of a life rightly aligned. Many believers struggle financially not because God has withheld, but because the spiritual order of firstfruits has been reversed. We give Him what remains rather than what comes first. Today, examine your relationship with your resources. Are you giving God the firstfruits of your time, your talents, and your treasure? Or are you handing Him the crumbs after every other obligation has taken its share? The path to true biblical wealth — wealth that satisfies the soul and blesses generations — begins with honoring God first. Open your hand to Him, and watch Him open the windows of heaven over your barns.
