On this summer day, June 19, 2026, we are drawn to one of Scripture's clearest declarations on the relationship between worship and wealth. Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest king of Israel, teaches us a divine economic principle: honor begins with giving God the first and best, not the leftover. The word 'firstfruits' carries deep weight in Hebrew thought — it refers to the very first portion of the harvest, offered before the farmer knew whether the rest of the crop would even succeed. It is an act of radical trust, declaring that God is the source of all increase, not merely the recipient of our surplus. Notice the beautiful paradox embedded in this proverb. The world tells us to hoard in order to be filled; God tells us to give in order to overflow. When we honor the Lord with our substance — our income, our time, our talents, our firstfruits — He does not merely refill what we gave. He causes our 'barns to be filled with plenty' and our 'presses to burst out with new wine.' This is not a prosperity formula to manipulate God; it is a covenant promise that flows from a heart fully surrendered to Him. The bursting press is a picture of abundance so overwhelming that our containers cannot contain it. Today, ask yourself: am I giving God my firstfruits, or merely my leftovers? Whether your harvest this season feels like a trickle or a flood, the principle remains. Honor Him first — in your finances, in your morning hours, in your decisions — and watch how He multiplies what remains. True biblical wealth is never measured by what we accumulate, but by what flows through us into the Kingdom.
