Daily Bible Verse
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Reflection
There is a sacred order to prosperity that the world has forgotten. Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest king of Israel, did not say to honor the Lord with our leftovers or with what remains after every other obligation has been satisfied. He said firstfruits — the very first and best of what comes into our hands. This is not merely a financial principle; it is a posture of the heart. When we give to God first, we declare that He is the source of every increase, not the recipient of our surplus. The barns and winepresses of the ancient world were symbols of overflow, of a harvest so abundant it could scarcely be contained. God promises that when we put Him first in our substance, He puts His blessing first in our storehouses. In our modern economy of automatic deductions and digital transfers, the principle remains unchanged. Before the mortgage, before the groceries, before the savings account — honor the Lord. This is not a transaction to manipulate God into blessing us; it is an act of worship that aligns our finances with our faith. Many believers struggle financially not because they lack income, but because they have inverted the divine order. They give God what is left, and wonder why so little is left to give. Today, consider the firstfruits of your increase — not only money, but time, energy, and attention. The God who multiplied loaves and fishes still honors those who honor Him first. Bursting presses and full barns are not promises of extravagance, but of sufficiency overflowing into generosity. When God can trust you with the first, He can trust you with the much.
